CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — With snow and freezing rain in the weekend forecast, the Champaign Center Partnership announced Monday that it is closely monitoring conditions that could impact the 25th Annual Parade of Lights, set for Saturday evening in Downtown Champaign.

To ensure the safety of parade participants, volunteers, and spectators, the organization plans to make a final decision about whether to postpone the event by midday on Friday. If rescheduled, the parade would move to Saturday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the parade, Winter Fest and all associated Shop Local promotions will continue as planned throughout Saturday. The daylong festivities include Small Business Saturday deals, activities at participating stores, family-friendly entertainment, and visits with Santa.

“We are committed to celebrating our local businesses, the holiday season, and this special annual tradition in a way that is joyful, safe, and community-focused,” said Jenna Manolakes, Executive Director of the Champaign Center Partnership. “Even if weather impacts the parade itself, Downtown Champaign will still be alive with holiday spirit, shopping, and family-friendly activities this Saturday.”

An official update on the status of the Parade of Lights will be issued Friday.

Residents can find the latest information by following the Champaign Center Partnership on Facebook and Instagram at @ChampaignCenter.
