CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Persistent bad weather has forced organizers to cancel this year’s 25th Annual Parade of Lights, the Champaign Center Partnership announced Friday. The parade, originally set for Saturday, will not be rescheduled due to safety concerns for participants, volunteers, and spectators.

While the parade is off, several holiday events will still take place downtown. Bruce and Mary Knight of the City of Champaign, selected as the 2025 Grand Marshals for their longtime service and community impact, will be honored during the Tree Lighting ceremony at 4 p.m. on the Neil Street Plaza. The tree will remain lit afterward for evening photo opportunities.

Downtown businesses will continue with Shop Local Saturday activities, including visits with Santa at Big Grove Tavern from noon to 4 p.m., the Mistletoe Market at the Orpheum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and special in-store promotions. However, the Kid Wonderland Zone, Holly Trolley, and plaza entertainment have been canceled.

Organizers expressed gratitude to the many sponsors supporting this year’s holiday season and encouraged residents to still come downtown to celebrate and shop locally.
