Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – There will be elections in other states Tuesday, but the next election in Illinois is still about four months away.

Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray says the fact other states may be holding elections Tuesday, and your calendar says November 4th is “Election Day,” since it’s the first Tuesday in November, doesn’t mean there is an election in Illinois.

“The election office has been receiving many phone calls and social media inquiries concerning where they vote and who’s on the ballot in Sangamon County,” Gray said, in a news release. “The public should know that Illinois does not have a November fall election this year. Take this reminder of a potential election as a good time to ensure that you are registered to vote for the next Primary Election in March of 2026.”

Gray did speak with WTAX News recently, and assured the public that the next election will be as safe and secure as can be, despite continued claims to the contrary.

Monday is the last day candidates can file petitions for the primary election, scheduled for March 17, 2026.

Gray, by the way, will be a candidate for re-election.
