CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The skies above west Champaign will be buzzing with high-flying action as the Champaign County RC Club hosts its annual Barnstormers event on September 6 and 7 at the club’s airfield, located at 3616 W. Bloomington Road.

The event will feature remote control aircraft of all sizes and shapes—including jets—flying from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7.

A favorite for aviation enthusiasts and families alike, the Barnstormers event gives visitors a chance to get up close with model aircraft and learn more about the exciting world of radio-controlled aviation. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

For those looking to experience the thrill firsthand, RC flight lessons are available. Visitors can contact Dan Irwin at 217-417-0198 or daniel363@ameritech.net to schedule a time. Each session includes a short simulation training followed by actual flight time—with an instructor on standby to ensure a safe, crash-free experience.

“It’s exhilarating and fun,” Irwin said. “If you’ve ever wanted to try flying an RC plane, this is your chance.”

The event is located just two miles west of Mattis Avenue on Route 150 at the airfield is located at 3616 W. Bloomington Rd, Champaign, IL.
