Lance Carpenter named Champaign Police Department’s 2025 Detective of the Year

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — On Wednesday, the Champaign Police Department announced that detective Lance Carpenter was selected by his peers in the Investigations Division as the department’s 2025 Detective of the Year, as announced on Facebook.

“Detective Carpenter’s natural leadership abilities extend far beyond his formal roles. He is always willing to guide newer detectives, share knowledge, and step up when his team needs support,” one of his colleagues said. “Whether leading a complex investigation or assisting colleagues in the field, he consistently demonstrates teamwork, humility, and commitment to the collective success of the unit. His calm presence, innovative problem-solving, and willingness to take initiative make him a cornerstone of the investigative division.”
