URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Innovators In Action (IIA) is excited to announce the upcoming Adapt-A-Thon, a hands-on community volunteer event aimed at adapting toys for children with disabilities who use adaptive switches. The event will take place on Saturday, December 13th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Medical Sciences Building, 506 S. Mathews Ave. in Urbana.

The Adapt-A-Thon is IIA’s year-end service event, bringing together students from various fields, including medical, undergraduate, graduate, and high school students from the Jack and Jill Foundation, to make toys more accessible for children who rely on adaptive devices to engage in play. Volunteers will work throughout the day to modify toys, which will then be delivered to local classrooms and therapy programs in the Urbana-Champaign area the following week.

This year’s event offers a unique opportunity to witness firsthand how collaboration between students and community members combines engineering, creativity, and compassion to make play more inclusive for all children. Every toy and accessibility kit is provided free of charge to the families, schools, and organizations receiving them.
