PARIS, IL (Chambana Today) — Horizon Health will offer a Safe Sitter class for local youth next month, providing hands-on instruction in safety, childcare, and basic life skills for young teens.

The one-day class is scheduled for Friday, April 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Horizon Health Education Center in Paris. The program is open to boys and girls ages 11 to 13.

Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized course designed to prepare students to stay home alone safely, care for younger siblings, and take on babysitting responsibilities. Participants will learn about safety and security precautions, child development, and age-appropriate activities, along with the basics of running a babysitting business.

The class also aims to build confidence and introduce students to early job skills, while reinforcing personal safety and responsibility.

The cost to attend is $50 per student, which includes course materials and lunch. Parents are not required to stay during the session, aside from drop-off and pick-up.

Registration is required by 5 p.m. on March 27 and can be completed online at MyHorizonHealth.org/Classes, or by phone, according to organizers.

Officials say the program offers a practical way for young teens to gain independence while learning skills they can use in everyday situations and future work opportunities.
