CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — A late-night house fire in Champaign displaced residents but resulted in no injuries, according to the Champaign Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to a single-family home in the 400 block of South Russell Street at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday after an occupant reported smoke inside the two-story residence.

When crews arrived, they found all occupants safely outside the home and observed moderate smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters advanced hose lines to the second floor and the rear of the residence and were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

No injuries to firefighters or occupants were reported. During the response, firefighters rescued one cat from the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire investigators were on scene Wednesday continuing to determine what sparked the blaze. The occupants of the home were displaced as a result of the fire, fire officials said.

The Champaign Fire Department did not release additional information about the extent of the damage.
