URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana is inviting supporters to help renovate the dining areas in its Residential Treatment Center (RTC), spaces that have served youth for more than two decades.
Opened in 2005, the RTC provides a safe, stable environment for about 30 young people at a time, usually for 18–24 months. The dining areas in the Jedi and Cornerstone residential units are heavily used and now show signs of wear. The planned renovations include new countertops, stainless-steel sinks, flooring, backsplash, and fresh paint to create welcoming, durable spaces that support both residents and staff.
The total cost of the renovation is $35,000 per unit, or $70,000 for both spaces. A generous matching offer from longtime supporters Lurinda and Larry Venezia will match every online donation dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, through June 5, 2026.
Cunningham has created donation packages to show how contributions make a difference:
- $53 — Tape Measure Team: Supports planning and preparation.
- $100 — Screwdriver Supporter: Helps install fixtures and finishing touches.
- $250 — Hammer Helper: Builds strong foundations for new countertops and surfaces.
- $500 — Power Saw Partner: Removes worn materials and prepares the space.
- $1,000 — Power Drill Builder: Installs new kitchen components.
- $2,500 — Tool Time Champion: Funds major upgrades like flooring, sinks, and countertops.
- $5,000+ — Master Builder: Moves the project closer to full completion.
