TOLONO, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The holiday spirit will fill the air in Tolono this Saturday, December 13th, as the town comes together to celebrate Christmas in Tolono, offering a variety of activities for residents and visitors alike. With over a dozen events scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking for unique holiday gifts, family-friendly activities, or a festive evening with neighbors.

Local Shopping and Wreath Relay Highlight the Day’s Events

Christmas in Tolono kicks off with two shopping locations downtown, where around 20 local vendors will showcase a wide range of handcrafted and one-of-a-kind gifts. In addition to the shopping experience, Tom’s Coffee Truck will be serving hot beverages to keep attendees warm as they browse. The festivities will also include refreshments provided by local churches, adding to the sense of community throughout the day.

One of the event’s new highlights this year is the Wreath Relay, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at East Side Park. Participants can sign up for this fun and unique event, where they will pass a holiday wreath from East Side Park to West Side Park in a relay-style race. Those interested in participating can register online or at the park.

Tree Lighting Ceremony and Evening Festivities

As evening approaches, the excitement builds toward the Tree Lighting Ceremony from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. inside the Masonic Lodge at 202 E Main Street. The ceremony will feature carols from the Unity West 5th Grade Choir, alongside cookies and hot cocoa for attendees. Santa will lead the countdown to light the town’s Christmas tree around 6:15 p.m., followed by the announcement of the 50/50 raffle winner. The raffle tickets, priced at $10 each, are currently being sold at three Tolono businesses.

The night will also include the Decorated House Awards, brought to you by TraXside, celebrating the town’s most beautifully lit homes.

Book Ball for Adults

In addition to the family-friendly festivities, the Tolono Public Library is hosting a “Book Ball” from 7 to 9 p.m. at the newly renovated “Events at 108” on Main Street. Formerly the Tolono VFW, this event offers an opportunity for adults to enjoy an evening of books, conversation, and community.

A Fun and Meaningful Holiday Tradition

While the traditional horse-drawn carriage rides have been canceled for this year, there are plenty of events to enjoy throughout the day and evening. The Christmas in Tolono event is organized by TolonoFunDays.org, a non-profit group dedicated to bringing people together for community celebrations.
