Champaign hosts community meetings for street outreach and violence interruption

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The City of Champaign, in collaboration with Acclivus Inc., is inviting community members to attend a series of meetings aimed at addressing street outreach and violence interruption efforts under the Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint (CGVRB). These meetings will provide an overview of the initiative’s goals, local job opportunities in street outreach and violence interruption, and a chance to connect with leadership from Acclivus Inc.

The meetings will take place on:

  • Wednesday, October 29th

    • Providence at Thornberry: 4:00-5:00 p.m. | 3800 Colleen Drive, Champaign

    • Y on the Fly: 6:30-7:30 p.m. | 2422 W. Springfield Ave., Champaign

  • Thursday, October 30th

    • Champaign Public Library: 2:00-3:00 p.m. | 200 W. Green St., Champaign

    • Housing Authority of Champaign County (HACC): 5:00-6:00 p.m. | 2008 N. Market St., Champaign

Acclivus Inc. CEO LeVon Stone, Sr. emphasized the organization’s commitment to utilizing its expertise in community violence intervention and data-driven approaches to promote safe, peaceful, and economically thriving communities.

Jorge Elvir, Community Relations Manager for the City of Champaign, highlighted the significance of street outreach as a key component of the Blueprint, stressing the importance of listening to those closest to the challenges and empowering them to shape solutions.

The CGVRB aims to reduce gun violence by addressing its root causes. The program is overseen by the Equity and Engagement Department’s Community, Safety and Justice division. For more information on the Blueprint, visit the official city website.
